Zusammenfassung

Common standards are more and more important in interdisciplinary research. In particular, the combination of geospatial data and humanities expert data, like archaeological sites, should be based on standardized formats and services. In Germany, services like Web Feature Services and Web Map Services using relational databases are part of the administrative infrastructure. Moreover, Semantic Web and Linked Open Data technologies are graph-based alternatives used more and more especially on the British islands (e.g. the Ordnance Survey modelled their geospatial data as LOD). This technology, based on the Resource Description Framework (RDF) and the idea linking online available resources is suitable for interoperable data management in time and space. This presentation gives an insight into humanities research in the eyes of a classical geodesist using RDF. Starting from an introduction of Linked Open Data, interdisciplinary projects like chronOntology and the Labeling System will be presented.
